Motorized Shades in Tempe, AZ

What's the style of your home?

Amp AV handles motorized shades in Tempe and across the East Valley, about 15 minutes from our Mesa shop. Tempe is the most mixed market in the East Valley: mid-century homes near the lake and the university sitting alongside newer infill, condos and small commercial spaces. We do more light commercial work here than in the surrounding cities.

Tempe is not one type of building. Drive a few miles in either direction here and the building stock shifts fast: mid-century single-story houses near Tempe Town Lake and ASU sit close to newer infill, condo buildings, and small commercial spaces, and that mix is what actually shapes our approach to a motorized shade install before we touch a single window. Around Maple-Ash and Tempe Historic, the older single story homes tend to have cramped attic space, and that crawl space, not the shade hardware itself, usually sets the pace of the job. What takes the planning is routing low-voltage cable from a control point out to the window without cutting into finished ceilings. On those homes we spend more time scoping the cable route than picking the fabric. Newer infill and condo units are the opposite problem: tighter floor plans, shared walls, and sometimes no attic at all, which pushes us toward wireless or battery shades where a wired run isn’t practical. Tempe also sends us a larger share of light commercial jobs than the cities around it, offices and mixed-use retail spaces near downtown among them, where window shade planning gets built into the lighting and AV design from day one rather than added on at the end. None of this is guesswork on our end. We walk the space, find where the wire can actually go, or confirm it can’t, and build the shade plan around what the building will allow, not the other way around.

How We Approach Shade Selection and Installation

Smart Window Treatments

Amp AV installs motorized shades in open roll, enclosed, coupled, and dual cassette styles, and for new construction or renovation in Tempe we start the same way everywhere: a conversation about what each shade needs to do, sunlight control, privacy, or energy efficiency, followed by an estimate built from your actual window dimensions. Wherever attic or wall access allows it, we recommend wired shades. They’re maintenance-free once installed, they lower to precise preset positions, and they don’t need batteries swapped every few years, which matters most on the high, hard-to-reach windows common in Tempe’s lake-view and multi-story infill homes. Where wiring isn’t practical, battery shades are a legitimate option, and we’ll walk you through the real cost difference once you factor in remotes and repeaters. A good number of the properties we work on in Tempe are held as rentals or investments near the campus or downtown corridor, and for those owners the priority is a system the next tenant or property manager can run without help, nothing to sign up for and no orientation needed to get started. That’s the same way we build every system we install, shades included.

Get Started

Motorized Shades in Tempe

Usually, yes, but it takes more planning than a newer home. We scope the ceiling and wall cavities first to find a real path for the cable before recommending wired shades. If there's genuinely no route without opening finished ceilings, we'll spec battery-powered shades instead so you're not paying for demo work you don't need.

No. We don't sell subscriptions. Once the shades go in and connect to the control system, whoever takes over running the property, tenant or manager alike, can work them from the interface that is already there, with nothing to register, no monthly charge, and no need to phone us just to keep things running from one day to the next, which counts for the most on buildings that turn over ownership or tenants frequently.

Downtown Tempe and Mill Avenue condos usually share walls and often restrict what you can run through common areas, so we look at existing conduit paths first before recommending an approach. Wireless is the more realistic option in most of these buildings since it does not require running new cable through shared structure, and it still ties into your automation system with scenes and scheduling instead of just a separate remote.

Buildings around Tempe Town Lake tend to sit in dense wireless environments with dozens of other networks competing for the same signal, so we start any shade project there by looking at the network itself, not the shades. Once we know the wireless environment can support control reliably, we either wire the shades directly into your system or put them on a dedicated network path so they are not fighting with tenant Wi-Fi for bandwidth.

Many of the newer infill homes near ASU and the lake sit right next to older mid-century construction, and the two are usually built differently, block or stucco versus wood frame walls. That difference changes how we route power and control wiring more than it changes the shades themselves, so we check construction type on site before recommending wired versus wireless for a specific window.
