Scottsdale's Lot Sizes Change What a Network Install Looks Like
Scottsdale doesn’t have one housing stock, it has two. South of the 101, mid-century and 1970s to 1990s homes sit on compact, regular lots, so a single equipment closet and two or three access points usually cover the whole property with short cable runs. Installations in North Scottsdale start from a different set of assumptions. Properties in that part of town typically sit on large, irregularly shaped hillside or desert lots, where a detached casita, pool house, or garage often stands fifty feet or farther from the main structure, occasionally with a wash or a privacy wall separating the two. That distance is why we treat a home network installation in Scottsdale on one of these lots as a multi-building project, not a bigger router. We run conduit or bored line out to the casita and place outdoor-rated access points to close the gap, because asking WiFi to punch through block walls and open desert air over that kind of distance doesn’t hold up. A lot of these North Scottsdale properties are also second homes, occupied only part of the year. Nobody wants to fly in and discover the network’s been down for a month, so we build in remote monitoring from the start, so a dropped access point or a bad ISP handoff gets flagged, and often fixed, before anyone in the house notices.
The Equipment and Approach We Use on Scottsdale Properties
We install and support Ubiquiti’s UniFi line on nearly every Scottsdale project, from a UniFi Dream Router for a straightforward single-building home to a rack-mounted UniFi Dream Machine Pro when a property has a casita, guest house, or detached office that needs its own switch and a 10G trunk back to the main house. We default to hardwired connections wherever we can run a cable, because a wired streaming box is noticeably faster and buffers less than one relying on a mesh repeater, and that gap widens on a large North Scottsdale lot where a wireless signal has more walls and yard to cross. Almost every Scottsdale home has a patio or covered outdoor living space, so we use Ubiquiti’s outdoor-rated, humidity-rated access points there, keeping the connection solid from the great room out to the pool deck. In older construction where we can’t fish new wire, Eero mesh is our retrofit option instead.

Not reliably as pure WiFi at that distance, especially through block walls or across a wash. We treat this as a wired job: running a cable path out to the casita and placing a UniFi access point there so it acts as its own strong signal source rather than a weak repeat of the main house's WiFi. That's the difference between a casita with real coverage and one with a dead zone.
Yes. UniFi's controller lets us and you see the status of every access point and switch remotely, so a dropped device or an ISP outage shows up right away instead of waiting for someone to notice on arrival. For a seasonal property, that visibility is part of the design, not an add-on.
In block or plaster construction like a lot of south Scottsdale's mid-century homes, running new cable through solid walls is often not practical without significant patching. When that's the case, we typically use Eero as a retrofit mesh solution instead of Ubiquiti, since it delivers strong coverage without needing a wire pulled to every access point. We still hardwire wherever an existing chase or attic run makes it possible.
On hillside and desert lots like a lot of North Scottsdale properties, we still push to get physical cable between buildings whenever the terrain allows it, buried or run through existing conduit along the driveway, because hardwired always beats wireless for speed and reliability. When grade changes, retaining walls, or landscaping make trenching impractical, a point-to-point wireless bridge between structures becomes the fallback, not the starting plan.
Several Scottsdale HOAs limit what equipment can be seen from the road or from a neighboring lot, so before installation day we plan access points and equipment placement with that limit in mind, routing wiring through attics, using existing conduit, and mounting gear inside rather than leaving anything exposed on the outside of the house. We also coordinate gate codes and access windows with your HOA or community ahead of time, so the crew isn't held up getting onto the property on install day.
