Amp AV handles savant installer in Tempe and across the East Valley, about 15 minutes from our Mesa shop. Tempe is the most mixed market in the East Valley: mid-century homes near the lake and the university sitting alongside newer infill, condos and small commercial spaces. We do more light commercial work here than in the surrounding cities.

What Tempe's Housing Mix Means for a Savant Install

Tempe is the most varied property mix we work in across the East Valley. This part of Mesa mixes older single-story ranch houses with newer condo buildings and small commercial storefronts sitting right on top of each other, so a much bigger share of our jobs here are light commercial AV installs than what we see in the surrounding towns. In Maple-Ash and the Tempe Historic districts, most of the homes are single story with attics that are cramped or don’t exist at all, so before a Host controller or interface ever comes up, we get into the crawl space and open wall cavities to map out a workable path for cable between rooms. That routing plan, not the equipment list, is what decides the timeline and the layout of the system. Multi-tenant buildings and mixed-use blocks near downtown and the lake add a second variable: a lot of other networks broadcasting in the same square footage. A system installed in that kind of density fails on the network side before the audio or video ever has a chance to, so for Savant automation in Tempe we design and test the network before we mount a single device. A good number of properties in this area are rentals or investment units, and those owners need a setup that a new tenant or a property manager can operate with no subscription required.

The Host, the App, and How We Spec It for Your Property

The actual system is a Savant Host, the processing unit behind everything, ranging from smaller embedded Hosts built into audio components up to the Pro Host and Super Pro Host that run on Mac hardware for larger properties. In a condo or a single-story Maple-Ash home, an embedded Host often covers the whole property; in a larger custom home near the lake or a commercial space downtown, we spec toward the Mac-based Hosts. Control itself comes through the Savant app, wall-mounted touch screens, or a handheld remote, whichever combination fits how the household or business actually moves through the space. When we take on a Savant automation job in Tempe, the control system itself isn’t where the conversation begins. Instead, the first step is confirming there’s an actual need, most often several entertainment rooms that would benefit from a single point of control, and only after that do we expand into scenes covering lighting, shades and climate, an area where Savant’s scene editing holds up better than competing platforms once you’re juggling more than one sub-system.

During the course of our new build, we got a few AV quotes, but when I visited the showroom and spoke to Greg I was sold. During the build process I was there daily watching subs and their work, AMP AV was always on time, extremely meticulous in the routing of cables and placement of equipment, and always clean. At the end of the install, everything was as planned and looks amazing. Never being a home audio guy, it sold me after this experience with Greg and Ryan. Also being a little tech challenged, they came back out to dial me and my wife in on how to use everything to it's potential. Definitely recommend, and this is not a paid review. 5 stars!

Highly recommended. They installed a home theater surround sound system and also fixed some faulty wiring for our patio speakers. Excellent work quality, great communication, and showed up on time for each planned visit.

Greg and his team are pros; they were very comprehensive in the consultation process, provided detailed quotes, and showed value. Once on-site the crew was knowledgeable, respectful, and eager to customize to meet our needs. I’d recommend any day of the week.

Greg and his team were great to work with! Greg came out for the initial assessment and answered all of my questions. When his techs Ryan and Easton showed up they were prompt, courteous, and did a wonderful job installing my network drops and cameras. Highly recommend working with the Amp AV team!

We absolutely recommend Greg/Amp AV. This company came out (hired mid to late 2019) and fixed a huge mess from our previous home automation guys. Our system was left complicated. Greg is honest, patient, and extremely willing to help. Amp AV gave us options and were willing to work around with the equipment we already had. Not only are they friendly and professional, the response time is quick and scheduling is made in a timely manner. We will continue to use this company and I would highly recommend for your home automation/tech needs. Prices are fair, I did compare to a few different companies.

Tempe Questions

In these older Tempe homes, the attic void above the ceiling is often too shallow to crawl through, which means the cable path has to go around that obstruction instead of being run in a straight line. We route through crawl spaces, closets and wall cavities instead of overhead, which usually means more planning time upfront and sometimes a slightly different device layout than a newer home with open attic runs. It rarely changes what the finished system can do.

Yes to needing a plan for handoff, no to a required contract. A lot of the Tempe properties we work on are rentals or investments, and owners usually want a system a property manager or new tenant can run without calling us every month. Savant's app and touch screen controls are built to be handed over, and we set them up so nothing depends on an ongoing contract to keep working.

It can if the network isn't planned for it. Downtown properties and anything close to the water pack a lot of separate Wi-Fi networks into a tight area, and that crowding is about as heavy as wireless interference gets on any job site we handle. For a project like yours we start with network design, proper access point placement and channel planning, before we ever talk about the Savant equipment itself. Get that right and the control system runs the way it's supposed to.

Yes. Tempe has more of this mixed use and light commercial work than the surrounding cities, largely because of the density around downtown and ASU. We can put Savant control on the residential side and, separately, cover the commercial audio, video or access needs in the same building. Each side gets specified on its own, so the system fits the actual use rather than a standard home setup.

It changes where cable can travel, not whether the system will work. Slab infill homes common in Tempe's newer development near ASU have no attic run and no crawlspace, so we plan pathways through walls, soffits or dedicated conduit during rough-in, and design around fewer natural chases in a finished home. This is one of the reasons we like to be involved before drywall goes up, not after.
