How Gilbert Home Construction Shapes a Whole-House Audio Layout

In Gilbert, the AV jobs we take on mostly involve construction from the past twenty years, so plenty of these houses came from the builder with low-voltage cable already sitting inside the walls. That is real work saved before we ever open a wall. The catch is that a builder’s prewire is not a design. Builders run cable to a handful of standard locations, then land every one of those runs in a single hall closet with a door that does not breathe and no shelf space for an amplifier or a rack. Sorting out that closet and confirming which run actually reaches the ceiling location you want speakers is most of the labor on a typical Gilbert job, more than the speakers themselves.

The shape of the lot carries just as much weight. Lot shape is also a factor here: in Agritopia, Seville, and Val Vista Lakes, a home site is more often elongated than square, and the backyard runs on well beyond the distance a builder’s original speaker layout was designed to cover. Two speakers mounted near the patio will cover the space closest to the house and leave the far end of the yard, the pool, the fire pit, quiet. Because those neighborhoods lean toward larger single-family lots with real outdoor living space, we plan outdoor audio and multi-room systems around the actual depth of the yard, not a generic two-speaker patio kit.

How We Build Out a Prewired Gilbert Home

A multi-room audio system should be simple to live with: one app, consistent sound and picture quality whether you are in the kitchen, the primary suite, or the backyard, with each room set independently for what is actually happening there. For a prewired Gilbert home, we start with an on-site survey rather than trusting the builder’s plan, then write a proposal covering only what the house actually needs, crediting any usable existing equipment. If the prewire missed a room or a run does not test out, our technicians retrofit and fish new wire, usually without cutting open drywall. Where a Gilbert homeowner already has speakers with no way to stream to them, we typically add a Sonos Port to bring an existing amplifier onto the same app used everywhere else in the house, which is also a good reason to have new construction prewired even if the speakers go in later.

During the course of our new build, we got a few AV quotes, but when I visited the showroom and spoke to Greg I was sold. During the build process I was there daily watching subs and their work, AMP AV was always on time, extremely meticulous in the routing of cables and placement of equipment, and always clean. At the end of the install, everything was as planned and looks amazing. Never being a home audio guy, it sold me after this experience with Greg and Ryan. Also being a little tech challenged, they came back out to dial me and my wife in on how to use everything to it's potential. Definitely recommend, and this is not a paid review. 5 stars!

Highly recommended. They installed a home theater surround sound system and also fixed some faulty wiring for our patio speakers. Excellent work quality, great communication, and showed up on time for each planned visit.

Greg and his team are pros; they were very comprehensive in the consultation process, provided detailed quotes, and showed value. Once on-site the crew was knowledgeable, respectful, and eager to customize to meet our needs. I’d recommend any day of the week.

Greg and his team were great to work with! Greg came out for the initial assessment and answered all of my questions. When his techs Ryan and Easton showed up they were prompt, courteous, and did a wonderful job installing my network drops and cameras. Highly recommend working with the Amp AV team!

We absolutely recommend Greg/Amp AV. This company came out (hired mid to late 2019) and fixed a huge mess from our previous home automation guys. Our system was left complicated. Greg is honest, patient, and extremely willing to help. Amp AV gave us options and were willing to work around with the equipment we already had. Not only are they friendly and professional, the response time is quick and scheduling is made in a timely manner. We will continue to use this company and I would highly recommend for your home automation/tech needs. Prices are fair, I did compare to a few different companies.

Gilbert Questions

Blank plates and wire bundles behind a wall or in a hall closet usually mean the home was prewired at construction, but that only tells you cable exists, not that it goes where you want speakers. We still do an on-site survey to trace each run and confirm locations before proposing equipment, since Gilbert builders often placed speakers for a standard floor plan rather than your furniture layout.

Usually not directly. Two patio speakers are sized for a patio, not a lot that runs as long as a typical Agritopia yard. Adding a second zone near the pool or fire pit, controlled independently from the patio pair, covers the depth of the yard properly. We plan the layout on-site rather than stretching wiring meant for a smaller footprint.

Not automatically. A large share of new Gilbert construction includes a builder-grade prewire, but the crews running that cable are working from a generic plan, not your furniture layout, so speaker runs often miss the best locations. That cabling typically ends up in a cramped closet that has no airflow and not enough space to mount a rack. Amp AV can review the plans before drywall or adjust the prewire after move-in so it actually supports a real system.

In Gilbert, parcels typically stretch back farther than they run wide, meaning a speaker layout designed around a square backyard often leaves the far end of the yard without sound. Rather than pushing one pair of speakers harder, we plan outdoor audio in zones, patio, mid-yard, and back fence, each with its own volume control, so sound stays even the whole length of the property instead of fading out.

Yes, but the TV needs to be built for it. A standard indoor television will not survive a west-facing Gilbert patio's heat and glare. We recommend weatherproof, high-brightness outdoor television models rated for direct sun and Arizona summer temperatures, mounted with enough shade or setback to protect the screen further. This kind of installation comes up often in Gilbert's newer neighborhoods, where covered patios and outdoor kitchens are standard rather than an add-on.
